A new Principia Discordia is in the making.

   

Many people were disappointed in the Steve Jackson Games 5th edition of the Principia. He put ads all over it, and used copyrighted material (namely, his pyramid-with-eye logo). The whole thing had a very slick, commercial feel to it, which rubs most Discordians the wrong way.

So, we're making our own. The new edition will contain everything published in previous editions, plus however much new stuff we come up with. It will be put in its entirety on the web, as we've done with the existing Principia, and then, Eris willing, we'll release a print edition.

The next big question is, where will the new material come from? The Ambrose Bierce Mexican Travel Agency will be coming up with some of it, but we'll need a lot more. Thus, let it be written that submissions from Discordians everywhere will be welcomed. Send us your parables, your rants, your drawings, your downtrodden, your huddled masses. (Actually, just hold onto those last two.) This new edition is going to happen, and this is your chance to be a part of it. Direct thine inquiries and submissions to eriswerks@earthlink.net.

Update: My original thought was to make it basically the same as the old Principia in terms of concept and format. Then it occurred to me that that would be fairly unimaginative, and probably wouldn't add as much as I'd like to the Discordian mythos. So now I'm working on an entirely new concept for it... I'm thinking that the end product will come out being a sort of cross between the original Principia and a novel. I think it would be more interesting, in other words, if this had a plot of some kind driving it. I'm sure that there will still be plenty of call for weird images, anecdotes, rants, poem-like things, and suchlike; it's just a matter of how it will be worked in. (Perhaps some of it could be worked into the plot somehow?) Currently, I'm waiting for inspiration to strike - to begin writing before that happens would be a travesty, as a new Principia should be nothing less than inspired.
