Unions negotiating with Yale University have begun staging protests and demonstrations to voice their concerns. Unlike your typical protest or demonstration, the latest event by the unions was so orderly that one could swear it was planned by Greyface.
"Union leaders said they planned the disobedience to show how much support the unions have. Leaders arranged the event with New Haven Police beforehand, submitting cards with personal information from all of the demonstrators who would be arrested. Police used the cards to fill out citations before the event, which they handed out in an orderly fashion after the demonstration was broken up...Demonstrators were instructed not to move until they could be escorted to the Green, where police officers had set up tables to distribute prewritten citations, arranged in several lines divided by last name."
It's a bit surreal to see protestors lining up to recieve citations from police because the whole thing has been prearranged.

Now the ongoing argument on Yale's campus is between those who think the civil disobedience was a great thing, and those who think it's a sign of the sad state of protestors today that there was no rioting or teargas or high pressure hoses. I think the whole thing was kind of pointless, since the only people affected were those who didn't know to take different roads, and the state which got $60,000 out of the whole thing.

Reminds me of a time when I saw Public Enemy in concert at the Orpheum in Boston. We were all standing singing "Fight the Power!" with arms a-pumpin' while the rent-a-cops were telling us to sit down - which we did - all while never missing a beat. And we think the Power that we fight is "out there"... but first I must sprinkly you with pixie dust...
